On August 25th, I participated in a discourse with other scholars in commemoration of this year’s ‘Ashura, celebrated by the Shi’a throughout the Muslim world. We discussed the dialectical nature of martyrdom, both from an Islamic and Christian perspective, as well as that of the secular.
The participants include the following: Syed Farid Alatas, Dustin J. Byrd, Mahjabeen Dhala, Syed Sajjad Rizvi, Mehdi Shariati, Rudolf J. Siebert, and Seyed Javad Miri.
