Institute for Critical Social Theory
I am happy to announce the launch of the new Institute for Critical Social Theory (ICST). This institute will serve as a network for scholars working within the realm of social-political and cultural theory. Inter-disciplinary in its outlooks, ICST seeks to create opportunities for academics throughout the world to collaborate on projects, share their publications, discuss their ideas, and network on shared interests. The Institute for Critical Social Theory is especially interested in collaborative work that critical focuses on social, economic, and political change as it relates to both the global North and global South. As such, it is committed to fostering critical discourse between scholars from Western and “Western” societies and providing platforms for the presentation of their work.
The Institute for Critical Social Theory was founded by Dustin J. Byrd, Ph.D. in 2021 and is co-directed by his longtime academic collaborator, Seyed Javad Miri, Ph.D. Together, they have published numerous books on a variety of topics, and have co-edited the Institute for Critical Social Theory’s journal, Islamic Perspective.
